Roommate Sentenced In Shooting Death Of Bensalem Man

A Bucks County man could serve up to 30 years in state prison for killing his roommate last year, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Gregory Hylton, 41, was sentenced in late January to 15 to 30 years behind bars for the March 9, 2019, shooting death of 25-year-old Sharif Simpson.

Hylton and Simpson were inside their Bensalem apartment, on Knights Road when Hylton began arguing with Simpson over a mess in their apartment.

Hylton pushed Simpson onto a bed, produced a 9mm handgun and struck Simpson with the weapon several times before firing a single shot, according to the criminal complaint.

Officials said the evidence showed that the fatal shot struck Simpson in the chest was fired at extremely close range. Hylton insisted that he did not recall pulling the trigger, however, he pleaded guilty in October to third-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime and possession of marijuana.

On top of the prison time, Judge Diane Gibbons ordered Hylton to make restitution of $1,150 to the Bucks County Victims Fund.
