Crews Respond To Fire, HAZMAT Incident In Montgomery County

Upper Merion, Pennsylvania — Just after 4:00 Tuesday morning Montgomery County emergency crews responded to a reported hazardous materials incident at Coopers Creek Chemical Corporation in the 800 block of River Road.

Early reports indicate that a mall fire spread to a larger tank holding coal tar or creosote.

The company’s website says the Coopers Creek Chemical Corporation is a refiner of Crude Coal Tar. Crude Coal tar is a by-product of the Metallurgical Coke making process. Their products include Coal Tar, Coal Tar Pitches, Coal Tar Pitch Cutbacks, Distillate Oils, and Creosote.

Avoid the area as River Road is closed at Swedeland Road.
